This list is sort of like the annual Black List, but organized by different people. From their announcement email:To be eligible for the list, a spec must have been released into the spec market between December 1st, 2018 and November 30th, 2019. To be considered a spec, a screenwriter must not have been paid for their work prior to exposing their script to the market. The Hit List is voted on by executives, producers, writers, agents, managers, directors, and assistants.
To take part in the judging process, a person must have been employed within the film industry and nominated by those who have judged before them. This organic process allows an unbiased and writer-friendly vote, based on the expansion to those who are reading these scripts first, and those who are considered to represent the opinions of Hollywood. You can't really submit.
The scripts on the list are the sort of scripts that are passed around and talked about in the circles of other writers, managers and executives. For example, you could be trying to get one of your scripts out there, starting with your manager and your manager sends it to different people who then send it to other people on account of it being fantastic.
When it's time to vote for these kinds of lists, you end up placing because a substantial group of people remember your script and vote to place it on the list. You can get a manger at a farm;)There's absolutely no guaranteed, effective process to get a manager. I'm unrepresented ATM but my method has been inspired by the advice I've heard over the years, but it all comes down to this: Let other people see your work. How to do that? You can write query e-mails, submit to contests and fellowships like the Nicholl, get your script on script listing sites like The Black List or Script Revolution or Simply Scripts. Every now and then on Twitter, there will be managers who'll say they're open to queries and you can take that as an opportunity to query with them. But also, hang out with other writers, even if only online.
This sub is a good place to start. So is Twitter. Don't peddle anyone asking for favors. But writers are always appreciative of anyone who can give them good feedback off a script so you could start there.
But be nice and respectful. Don't do it just so you can advance your career, do it because it's the right thing to do. People want to help others who are kind to them. So if you have a great script that people know about, and you meet someone who has a manager, maybe they'll connect you to the manager on account of the script and you being a cool, friendly person.
